Verse of the day

"Thus says the LORD of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart."

- Zechariah 7:9-10 (ESV)

Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.  Luke 12:2-3

These verses came to mind during the recent ‘Bigot-gate’ incident.  Gordon Brown had been speaking with Gillian Duffy but upon returning to his car and forgetting to turn his microphone off told the world’s media what he really thought of the lady he had just been smiling at!

Bigot-gate’ is a reminder and warning to all of us that a day is coming when the hidden motives and secret thoughts of our hearts and minds will be revealed by God and broadcast for all to hear. That is a very solemn truth for un-believers to consider. The English playwright and novelist William Somerset Maugham must have been considering these things when he wrote:

For my part I do not think I am any better or any worse than most people, but I know that if I set down every action in my life and every thought that has crossed my mind the world would consider me a monster of depravity.

The good news is that Jesus Christ was sent by God to provide a way of sorting out our wicked hearts and minds.
